Alright! So there aren’t as many items due this time around as there have been the last couple times… But here are the things you should have in your sketchbooks for this time:
1. Preliminary notes about your designer. (1 pt)
2. Three images created by your designer and your analysis and interpretation of each piece. (3 pts)
3. Notes from each of the presentations. (4 pts)
Combined will be a total of 8 points. Please let me know if anyone has any questions!
In your response, please identify your favorite logo with the number that precedes the logo. In your response, tell me which is your favorite logo and WHY. Consider what GAP wanted with their redesign: to have a more contemporary logo to appeal to a wider range of audiences. You will get to vote for TWO logos for both GAP and iTunes logos.
Choose three images created by your designer/artist. Print and paste them into your sketchbook. Please write a mini paragraph for each of your images interpreting and analyzing each.
Interpretation: What do you think this piece means to the artist? What does this piece mean to YOU?
Analysis: Dive deeper into the piece… On a bigger scale, what does this piece seem to be about? Is there a message or emotion behind it? Take a guess if you’re not sure. What drew you to this piece and why?
Please email me if you have any questions.
Find an example of advertising, glue it in your journal and write a short analysis of the visual design and subliminal messaging. I will be collecting sketchbooks on Friday.
Here is what you should have in your sketchbook for the second grading period so far:
1. Logo brainstorming (1 pt)
2. 6 nicely done thumbnail variations of a logo idea you liked (1 pt)
3. Logo group/self critique for mid-project check in (2 pts)
4. Final logo critique of 3 classmate’s logo and 9 variations with critique sheet glued in for reference (3 pts)
5. The advertisement homework listed above. (1 pt)
A total of 8 points.
Good luck and I will see you all on Friday!
Here is the link for 99designs. Take a look at all the awesome things that 99designs has to offer.
Enjoy!
Please find and cut/print out 15 individual logos (not all from one image on a Google search) and paste those 15 images into your journal. Beside each logo tell me what you like or dislike about that logo and why. Additionally, if you weren’t able to finish the questions that were on the handout we did in class today, please finish that too. I will be collecting your sketchbooks on Monday.
Sketchbooks should have the following items in them:
1. 5 examples of different types of typography
2. Notes from Typography lecture that was given to us by Lauren
3. Notes from Adobe Illustrator instructions
4. Your name on the front (or inside) done nicely in one form of typography
5. Logo handout with questions from handout answered in sketchbook
6. 15 examples of logos and explanations of what you like/dislike about those logos and why.
Have a great weekend! See you Monday!
Please finish personalizing your name or intials using a typographic style that we have discussed in class. These should be hand drawn on the cover of your sketchbooks. Please ALSO finish your self portrait self-critique and grade yourself on your rubric again. I will be collecting sketchbooks, self-critiques, and rubrics on Friday for grading over the weekend.
Additional things that should be in your sketchbook: 1. Examples of real world typography 2. Notes from typographic portrait instructions.
Please ask questions if you have any. I will check the blog at 8pm this evening and tomorrow evening so that all questions asked are answered by Friday when these things are due.
